Honda Car Accessories; Competitive Civic

Last October the World Motor Sport Council has finally approved regulation amendment which will consequently allow Honda Civic Type-R 3 to be eligible for the current 2010 JWRC. The 250 HP plus (@ 8300 RPM) Civic R3 has already proven to be ultra-competitive; in 2008 Guy Wilks won the two-wheel drive category of Rally Finland, at the wheel of a Civic run by JAS Motorsport.

Type R was initially introduced during the period of sixth generation Civic which was unfortunately the last model equipped with the ultimate road hugging Double Wishbone suspension a feature that mostly loved by racing enthusiasts, the Double Wishbone has been deployed since the fourth generation. The performance oriented Civic has long been recognized as a popular choice for many type of racing competitions in particularly due to its nimble suspension set up as well as availability for engine swap Project Car.

The Double Wishbone set up on its four corners attracts enthusiasts for high degree of handling tuning with relatively simple modification as well as being available in abundant from popular Aftermarket vendors. The fact that Honda did not employ similar set up on the bigger sibling Accord until early 1990s shows its strategy focusing on Civic to be the leader of sport sedan segment, despite of its inherently expensive suspension type to be manufactured.

On the engine side Honda is enjoying as one of few Auto Makers to have the highest specific horsepower output per engine volume, where many others subsequently follow the suit, though Honda did not arrive at its current reputation with a decade long of Research and Deveclip_image004lopment. It started with the diminutive Z600 in late 1960s which was followed by the first generation of Civic in mid 70s, but when it was introduced it quickly make a loud and bold statement with the right successful formula at the time where the world was in deep energy crisis.

It was then sufficient to invite the high performance Honda Car Accessories in full swing at a steady production stream ever since. The first generation Civic was a great potential and easily modified with free flow part accessories on both ends; the intake as well as exhaust sides. The most popular method was to install a high flow muffler or resonators at the back. The oblivious size of the exhaust pipe would have to be increased also to a size that suits power application, typically at most 2".

This immaculate 76/ 77 Civic has recently appeared for sale. Though its body may not be at its best, it has good potential to be the next Project Car, furthermore the 30 years old little rocket could well be deserved to be a worthwhile as one of city Classic Cars.
