Classic Cars

The other day I watched Discovery Turbo; a popular TV program on mainly classic cars, racing and technical restoration. Many car enthusiasts have known outstanding individual, high profile figures who have had established personal achievements in car industry. These are the people who had pioneered phenomenal design and development for certain and in many cases general mass production or old car reproduction for customized order.

One of my favourite segment is a program called "overhaulin". Every showtime it depicts a complete restoration and rebuild of pre 1980s old cars, in fact mostly cars that was produced prior to mid 70s era. All parts are completely stripped off to its bare body and chassis. The rebuild involves replacing those old worn out and outdated parts with brand new the latest technology engine, drive train, brake and suspension system. Very much like MTV's own "Pimp My Ride", only it gets better as the restoration is meticulously designed by none other than the famous Chip Foose.

As the bare body and chassis are being prepared to get rid all the rusted parts, Chip Foose would go about hand draw designing the new look based upon the wishing dream of the overhaulin-victim. By design the car has lingering strong memorabilia attached to it, so transforming such car would stir deep emotion amongst victim's family members. This is the strongest point of overhaulin program, as its climax the victim would hardly recognized his or her newly transformed car.

One of the occasion it depicts a car that was previously father and son project, but was subsequently abandoned due to tragic death of the father. For years the old Chevy Nova had accumulated dust until the rebuilding team did the magic restoration job. The job normally took a week time requiring all team members to work day and nights with only five hours sleep each night. Every aspect of car has its own specialist team, such as body preparation and paint up to interior experts.

What a fabulous tv program to watch a huge 350 chevy into Nova's engine bay or whatever bay it is! Are you interested to apply as the next victim? Wait for the next continuation, since the program was apparently discontinued since last year. Tough Luck! Hmmm may be all team members had suffered insomnia problem...!

You could see the re-run program though and peek at Chip's artistic handdrawn classic car design. And make a comparison to a rare and classic RS500-Cosworth.
