Legendary model that help Ford's popularity as its A and T models the first Ford's assembling line production cars (The first assembling line production method in the world!). Initiated by Ford product manager DN. Frey, and later passionately shoehorned by Ford Division general manager Lee Iacocca (a legendary and famous former CEO of Chrysler in eighties), it was introduced to the public on 17 April 1964 at the New York World's Fair, it was projected to be sold for 100,000 unit. Yet, in its first twelve month sales had achieved the record of 418,812.
Through out its five generation models, the Mustang had tried to retain its muscle car popularity. Indeed the model has achieved global brand awareness as close to those of European top brands. One could not help to find the fifth generation to be in much resemblance to its early model, much like the slow and gradual evolution of 911 Porsche. A distinct and heavy muscle car style.
There were numerous debut on world racing championship as well as into many box office movies, among others; James Bond, Bullit and recently Gone in 60 seconds. Where the car nicknamed "Eleanor" got nicked in the last section of the movie. For a such loving car, many of its owner has lavishly modified their Mustangs. Some on a mere good look and other for the sake of speed performances.
A good looking Mustang may be achieved by some add on parts, such as body kits and part upgrades. Cosmetic upgrade includes; corner, fog and tail lights. A fairly recent trend is to incorporate a clear transparent corner lights.
One could not help by a beautiful stance of the "Eleanor" in that mid 2000s movie, similarly that of the 390 fastback model driven by Steve McQueen in the 1968 movie Bullitt which became famous for its high speed chase action fragments.
In commemorating its debut in Bullit and for marketing purpose, Ford reintroduced Mustang GT in 2001. The GT was only available in three colour choices; Dark Highland Green (the same shade of green used on the movie Mustang), Black, and True Blue. Total production was 5,582 units (3,041 Dark Highland Green, 1,818 Black, and 723 True Blue). Such a rarity indeed! Equipped with 3/4 inch lowered Tokico shocks, 245/45 tyre profiles and 13 inch Brembo disc rotors, it greatly improves handling and braking performances.
On power plant department; new improved flow on intake manifold and muffler as well as the replacement of pulley has broadened the torque band across the rpm. Where as 90% of torque also appears at the lowish 2,000 rpm. In addition to that by adding an open air filter element, reprogrammed engine's map management and lower 3.73:1 ratio live rear axle, its 0 - 60 comes to 4.9-5.0 seconds compared to the standard GT's 5.2-5.3, and its quarter miles comes in 13.8 seconds at 102 mph (164 km/h). And a 15 horsepowers increase to 315 hp.
