Modification? Why bother? I've enjoyed a lot driving my own standard specified drive. Though they might not be rarely powerful, yet their basic spec's car delivers sufficiently for urban traffic What's more the basic spec shares similar floorpan and chassis. Say Mercedes Bens G class the G280 in comparison to a rare high performance AMG G55. In its standard form the G280 already packed with enough punch to sprint, yet it needs to be revved hard to untap its potential and appreciate its screaming engine characteristic. It is such a music to your ear.
Revving hard your engine is the easy part, but making sure it could do as such over and over again without breaking apart prematurely requires diligent periodic maintenance. Starting with good quality oil, the best around if possible. Opt for a synthetic base oil. Then oil filter, while mentioning filter check your air filter! This is the first thing fresh air charge must go through prior to entering the combustion chamber. The more free flow it is the more power you get at lower revs. Generally Mercedes Benz's OEM part is already a high performance standard unit, nevertheless an upgrade to K&N air filter will yield better breathing capability of your car. Let alone other brand of car makers!
No need for going the whole hog, a light modification would do. A 2.5 tonnes G-Wagen is a bit troublesome to make a short braking path if you plan to drive it in furius, go for Brembo braking system with stronger caliper and more pistons as an upgrade replacement. Take care of your current car no matter how standard its spec is, then you could demand more out of its performance by step by step DIY modification.
