A die hard car enthusiast would strive anything she could do for her driving enjoyment, and then during those leisure spare time in between the driving there would be some DIY tinkering to further enhance her driving pleasure. Yet for most people who could not afford as much spare time the choices would be either aim for the best premium car or outsource the modification onto her ordinary daily ride. The kind of modifications which could enhance the ordinary daily ride such as fitting cosmetics dress up or installing in car entertainment system. A few would try to beef up the driveability which could go further improving performances.
Your daily ride does not have to be reliably boring or uninspiring tiny car with low fuel mileage consumption or low CO2 car, but practical as well as affordable for long term run well suited to your daily driving style. A small subcompact car with tiny sub 1300 cc engine is well suited for city daily driving and it will generally comply to all the above criteria, though for an inspiring car to drive it has to be European made daily ride.
It is fairly easy to pick up such trend from major auto market in Europe. You could immediately spot for Peugeot, Ford, Citroen, Renault and Fiat as subcompact car market leader. European brands that match above mentioned criteria yet inspiring to drive and best of all affordable. Amongst these brands Peugeot consistently lead the segmented auto market both in UK as well as across European continent soil.
From being the market leader of 13.7% on car produces less than 131g/km (Pug compact 207 and 308) across Europe to 18.6% on car with less than 121g/km CO2 (Pug subcompact 107) in UK sales. PSA Peugeot-Citroen has been known widely to produce affordable yet comfortable cars more than any other brand. PSA has strategically entered its car into frugal and low CO2 emission auto market’s segments. Ever since Peugeot and Citroen merged in the 1974 the group has enjoyed consistent market growth (except in North America) with last year turning point of 16,701 compare to 15,333 Peugeot car sales in 2007 for UK auto market, before dipping in the first quarter of 2009 like the rest of automobile industry world wide.
Today the PSA groups like others also suffer from cash strapping deficiency, scrambling and striving for additional commercial loans. Cost cutting measures, high technology assembling robots and platform sharing was not sufficient enough. Platform sharing between Peugeot and Citroen has many advantages with the exception of Citroen losing its idiosyncrasies, less Citroen like but more to the mainstream. In fact the loss of distinct Citroen characters (no more DS, GS nor CX anymore) had been long redundant so to speak by the recent Peugeot’s launch of convertible bonds two weeks ago.
